Charges Filed Against Suspect In Pomeroy Shooting

(Pomeroy)– Charges have been filed against an individual in connection to an alleged shooting incident in Pomeroy earlier this week.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has charged 22-year-old Nicholas Benedict with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Reckless Use of a Firearm Resulting in Serious Injury, both class C felonies…Going Armed With Intent, a class D felony…and Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon and Obstruction of Prosecution, both aggravated misdemeanors. Benedict is being held in the Carroll County Jail on a 29 thousand dollar bond. He faces up to 29 years in prison.

The alleged shooting happened Tuesday morning at an apartment in Pomeroy. Authorities believe the shooting started as a fight and escalated into an exchange of gunfire involving multiple individuals. Two people remain hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Both are expected to survive.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
