Black Hills Energy Customers To See Their Natural Gas Rates Go Up January 1st

December 30, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Black Hills Energy customers are about to see their natural gas rates go up. The company announced today (Mon.) the Iowa Utilities Commission has approved its new rates that will be going into effect January 1st, replacing an interim increase that has been in place since May of this year.

Under the new rates, the average residential customer bill will increase by $2.38 per month based on an average monthly use of 63 therms. Officials with Black Hills Energy say the increase for customers will vary, depending upon rate class, load factors and usage.

The utility provider says it’s the first rate adjustment since 2021. They add that since then, the company has invested about $100 million on maintenance and modernization projects to improve safety and reliability.
