O’Brien County Crash Claims Life Of An 18-Year-Old

December 23, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Primghar)– A single vehicle crash over the weekend claimed the life of a senior at South O’Brien High School.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were notified around 12:11 am Saturday of a 911 call from Onstar reporting a crash at 5454 500th Street southwest of Paullina. The report also indicated the airbags had deployed and there was one occupant in the driver’s seat.

Upon arriving on the scene authorities found a 2023 Chrysler Malibu. A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle had been traveling eastbound when it left the road, went into the north ditch, struck a driveway and rolled at least once. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. That person was identified as 18-year-old Carter Halverson of Paullina.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says the crash remains under investigation and that no further details are being released as of now.
