Estherville Awarded Grant For Improvements To Electric Distribution System

December 17, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– The city of Estherville has been awarded a sizable grant to make enhancements to its electric distribution system. The nearly $1.4 million in funding is coming from the Iowa Economic Development Authority and its Grid Resilience Fund. City Administrator Penny Clayton informed the city council of the grant award at their meeting Monday evening…

“So this is the project where we will be installing new metering equipment and new hubs that will monitor the activity on our local distribution system so we would know where outages are occurring, how many people are affected, when it happens we would be notified immediately of an outage. It allows us to control and monitor the grid locally and then also it allows us to read meters remotely so we’ll actually be able to read meters from the utility office, and we would actually be able to in some cases, do disconnects from the office if we need to.”

The council adopted a resolution authorizing city staff to sign off on documents related to the receipt of the grant.
