SL Noon Kiwanis Announces 2024 Citizen Of The Years

December 16, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club has announced their 2024 Citizen of The Years. Club Spokeman Kim Wermersen says this year’s recipients are Duane and Willia Mueseke of Spirit Lake…

“They’ve just done a really great job for almost 50 years of giving back and making a difference here in the lakes area.”

Willia Mueske tells KUOO news she and Duane are very humbled by the honor…

“The community has been so good to us. It was just a natural thing that took place and when we could we started giving back. I mean the Kiwanis themselves, that organization, it’s just amazing what they do in this community. That’s just one entity. And I belong to a group called Tri T. We do things in the community for young girls. It’s very easy to give back when you have had so much given to you.”

Of all the causes they’ve donated to over the years, Willia says the Y is one in particular that stands out to her and Duane…

“When the Y came into this community I think it gave the youth in this community a place that was safe, a place that was nurturing to the youth and it became important to Duane and I as far as being able to give back there. What they have done as far as their programs and all of the improvements that they continue to do, it was amazing as far as that we could do what we have for the Y and Camp Foster and my Tri T group, Camp Foster is, I mean that’s one place that really became important to us. It was great with the improvements that they were doing out there was amazing.”

She says supporting their church has also been important to them. Willia adds she and Duane feel honored to join those who were named of the Citizen Of The Years prior to them…

“You know we looked back at the people that were named Citizens of the Year and all those people, I mean they’re amazing. They’re just simply amazing. We feel so honored top be in their midst and very grateful, very grateful.”

Duane and Willia Mueske were named this year’s Citizens Of The Years at the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club’s annual Christmas party this past Saturday evening.
