(Lake Park)– A Children’s Christmas Bazaar will be taking place tomorrow (Sat.) at the Harris-Lake Park Elementary School in Lake Park. Principal Mike Thompson tells KUOO news this is the second year for the project that was brought back by a group known as “The Heroes of Happiness”…
“Many years ago we had an organization in town called the Garden Club that used to hold an event for families and students and our purpose and our mission and our goals haven’t changed. Due to a number of circumstances that project was discontinued and last year we had a group of our elementary staff that decided this was something we needed to keep doing.”
Thompson says it allows kids an opportunity to purchase reasonably priced gifts for family and friends…
“Due to an incredible number of generous donations from people across all of our communities, any Harris-Lake Park student Pre K-12 can come to our gym tomorrow here at the elementary at 9:00 am, the doors open at 9:00. We have a number of our Middle School-High School students that will be paired with our younger kids. They can walk around the gym, they can pick out items based on their budget and, Steve, nothing on the tables is typically more than three dollars, most are a dollar or two. Really the intent is to just give kids, they can walk in with a ten dollar bill and walk out with gifts for literally their entire family. We have some volunteers as well that will be wrapping those gifts free of charge. And while mom and dad are waiting for the kids in the gym, they’re going to be in our lunchroom enjoying some hot cocoa and apple cider, so it should be a great morning.”
Thompson adds the event is also a great opportunity for H-LP students of all ages to interact with each other.
Again the event tomorrow (Sat.) runs from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
