Kitchen Fire Sends One Person To The Hospital

December 04, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– A kitchen fire Tuesday damaged a home at 1321 North 12th Street in Estherville.

A fire officer who was first to arrive on the scene used an extinguisher to initially knock the fire down. Additional firefighters arrived and put out the rest of the fire and ventilated the residence. They also checked for signs of any possible extension of the fire to other areas of the home.

Significant fire damage was reported to the kitchen with heavy smoke damage to the remainder of the house.

One occupant was transported by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital to be checked over.

A preliminary investigation determined the fire was the result of a stove burner that was accidentally turned on, igniting some combustible materials on top of it.

Firefighters were on the scene about two and-a-half hours.

Estherville police, the Wallingford Fire Department, Estherville Ambulance Service and Estherville Electrical Department assisted on the scene.
