(Undated)– A number of Iowa fire departments, including some in our area, will receive a portion of $416,000 in funding for wildfire suppression, personal protective gear and communications equipment. The grants are a 50 percent cost share.
Departments in our area awarded the funding include Alta, Cherokee, Estherville, Everly, Fostoria, Gruver, Milford, Peterson, Sibley and Wallingford.
138 fire departments statewide will be receiving the grants, made possible through Iowa DNR Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service-State and Private Forestry.
