(Des Moines)– A northwest Iowa ag processor is among 24 entities being awarded funding through the USDA’s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure grant program.
The Iowa Nut Growers Association of Fenton will receive $69,300 to purchase a nutcracker and optical sorter for a mobile processing unit which will be made available to growers throughout Iowa. Officials say it will open new markets to growers and will increase production of certain nut crops, especially hazelnuts.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says more than $5.2 million in funds are going toward 24 projects around the state.
