Quick Action Averts What Could Have Been A Serious Fire In Estherville

November 27, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Authorities say some quick action averted what could have been a serious fire Saturday evening in Estherville.

Firefighters were called to a vehicle fire at 327 West 5th Avenue North. While enroute they learned the fire had spread to the exterior of a home. A fire officer who was first on the scene used a fire extinguisher from his personal vehicle, along with three other extinguishers provided by Estherville police, to contain the fire until crews arrived with a pumper truck. The fire was then quickly put out. Firefighters remained on the scene about an hour checking for any possible extension of the fire.

Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
