New Veteran’s Center Being Unveiled At Estherville Campus Of ILCC

November 21, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– An open house will be held Friday (Nov. 22nd) for the recently opened Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. Tim Ireland, Veterans Center Director, tells KUOO news the center offers a number of resources to support veterans transitioning to civilian life…

“We offer computers for the students, just a place to relax, snacks and drinks. Just a place to go hang out if they want. It’s got t.v.’s in there and stuff. The other things we do is we kind of check on student progress and to make sure that they’re being successful.”

Ireland says the center was made possible through some grant funding Iowa Lakes Community College received…

“We got a big grant from the Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success from the federal Department of Education and we’re building three veteran centers: one in Emmetsburg that was done last year and we had an open house for that; this one in Estherville, we just got it done so we’re having the open house for that, and we’re also doing one in Spencer and that should be done in the next three or four months and it will have an open house for that.”

Ireland says the open house for the veteran’s center at the Estherville campus will be going on from 9:00 am until 11:00 am tomorrow (Fri.)…

“Anybody that’s interested in the military stuff is, of course, invited. There will be light refreshments and snacks, things like that, just to come in and check out our progress to see what their center looks like and just come and go.”

Those attending should enter through the main entrance, number one, at the Estherville campus at 300 South 18th Street.
