Outside Consultant To Look Into City Of Spencer Flood Response

November 19, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer is bringing in an outside consultant to evaluate the city’s response to the June flood. Mayor Steve Bomgaars says Rick Rowe, a retired fire chief from Clive, operates a consulting business and will be conducting the review…

“What our disaster plan was, what happened, what went right, what went wrong. It’s kind of similar to what Interim City Manager Robinson did but I think on a different level. It will be getting another set of eyes on what happened during the flood and in the days after the flood and he will then look at that and he will give recommendations with regard to what we can do better, what needs to be done in the future. I think it’s good to get that third party look at how things went and what we can do in the future.”

Bomgaars says it will work hand-in-hand with the development of a hazard mitigation plan being put together by the city of Spencer and Clay county. It comes with a price tag of $18,600. Bomgaars says the county will be covering a portion of the cost.
