Blood Drive Scheduled For Wed. (July 24th) At Osceola Regional Health Center

July 23, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Sibley)– A blood drive will be held Wednesday at the Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibely. It’s being put on by the Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank, which supplies blood and blood products to a number of northwest Iowa hospitals, including Osceola Regional Health Center. Executive Director Ken Ver Steeg says most cancer survivors can now give blood much sooner than before…

“That has changed. You only have to wait one full year after being declared cancer free in order for you to donate blood. Now that, I need to clarify that, because that does not include blood-borne cancers. If was a blood cancer you still are permanently deferred. But other cancers out there it’s just that one full year is all you have to wait. So if you’re in a situation where you came in and donated blood and they told you sorry, you’re deferred for five years regardless of where you are in that five-year category you’re able to donate blood again. So you can schedule for an appointment to donate blood.”

You can make an appointment to donate by calling Osceola Regional Health Center at 712-754-5358. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with a signed parent consent form, weight at least 110 pounds and be in good health. You can donate every 56 days.
