(Arnolds Park)-Heads up for runners and cyclists with the University of Okoboji Homecoming Races on Saturday. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Annual University of Okoboji Homecoming Races will be held on Saturday, July 20.
Kylie Zankowski, Executive Director of Okoboji Tourism says, more than one thousand athletes will participate. “This University of Okoboji Homecoming event has been going on for 46 years and this year, we’re welcoming over 1,100 people from 25 different states to our area, anything from people running a race for the first time to the professional runners from across the nation. It’s gonna be a ton of fun. We’ve got 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon and Triathlon events going on Saturday morning. So, if you’re out and about, watch out for runners and bikers. Cheer them on as they get down to the finish line at Preservation Plaza and join this awesome community event and tradition.”
She adds that the races start early on Saturday morning. “The Triathlon kicks off at 7 o’clock in the morning. They’ll start with a swim from Arnolds Park Amusement Park Beach, then they do a bike ride around West Lake Okoboji and follow with an out and back run in The City of Okoboji. Of course, the other races, they begin at 8 a.m., and they all are running a route down Lakeshore Drive around beautiful West Lake Okoboji and everybody finishes together at Arnolds Park Amusement Park. Afterwards, we’re real excited to present awards and check presentations to those that won, and then, it finishes up right there by The Farmer’s Market in The Park.”
Motorists are urged to exercise caution during the races.
