(Des Moines)– Governor Kim Reynolds Thursday presented updated numbers of the impact of last month’s flooding in northwest Iowa…
“More than 5,000 homes have been impacted of which more than 2,000 are estimated to be destroyed and we anticipate actually that these numbers could continue to grow. On top of the devastation to residential neighborhoods, business districts were also heavily impacted. We had the opportunity to see this firsthand in Sioux Rapids where the downtown district was largely destroyed. Almost every single business down there had been impacted and most of them are unable to be repaired. And across the region more than $130 million in damage to public infrastructure including roads, bridges and water treatment plants has affected access and services in many communities.”
Speaking during a press conference, Reynolds said she and state agencies are committed to the long-haul…
“This will be a long term recovery and it’s going to require many resources to help families re-build, businesses re-open and communities to come back stronger than before. And I’m here to tell you also that we’re going to be here for the long haul.”
As we reported previously, the Governor also Thursday announced programs to assist those who’s homes were heavily damaged or completedly destroyed in the flood, as well as a loan assistance program for impacted farmers.
