Governor Reynolds Announces Programs To Assist Flood Victims

July 11, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Governor Reynolds also today (Thurs.) outlined a loan assistance program to help farmers severely impacted by the flood…

“This program actually buys down interest rates by reimbursing interest payments up to $50,000 per household over 12 months on commercial loans farmers will use to repair damage on insured property.”

The program, which went into effect today (Thurs.), is being administered through the Iowa Finance Authority. Applications can be made online at iowagrants.gov. The Governor also unveiled a couple of programs assisting those in presidentially declared counties with housing. One of those is the Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program…

“The program will provide temporary housing at no cost in their communities while they work toward a permanent housing solution. Housing units will vary and they will include everything from hotels, RV’s, travel trailers and modular homes.”

The program will be in place six months. Following that, a FEMA directed housing mission that would extend the program an additional 18 months out from the disaster. Reynolds says it’s the first program of it’s kind in Iowa and is based on a similar program in hurricane states. State disaster case advocates will work with those who qualify.

The Governor also announced she’s launching two other programs offering incentives for the construction of new homes and with repairing those that are damaged.
