(Little Rock)– Lyon county authorities say a crash that happened the night of the 4th of July at a washed out bridge approach drives home the point as to why we should never drive around barricades.
Authorities say 20-year-old Xander Ditsworth of Rock Rapids was driving a 2014 Jeep Patriot southbound on a county road southwest of Little Rock when he went around a barricade thinking the road was passable, when in fact, the road and bridge approach were completely washed away due to flooding. The vehicle became airborne over the void, collided with the bridge, and then fell into the creek below.
All three occupants managed to get out. They were taken to Avera Medical Group in Rock Rapids.
The vehicle was totaled.
Ditsworth was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
The crash took place a little after 11:30 pm.
