Continued Run-Off From Construction Site Drawing Ire Of Okoboji City Officials

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council again heard concern at this (Fri.) morning’s special meeting from property owners near the Sherwood Forest Park project. They also addressed the council at a special meeting earlier in the week on the matter. They indicated that there was more silt coming off the site following heavy rain overnight, and that a lot of it was going into West Lake Okoboji.

City Administrator Michael Meyers says a meeting was held with project representatives earlier in the week. He says they agreed to draw up some revised plans for the park that would include a detention pond to help slow down run-off from the site. In the meantime, city council members say the city shouldn’t have to be responsible for dealing with the run-off. Council member Julie Andres…

“This is asinine. We don’t have to manage their botched project up there.”

The council directed the City Attorney to draft a letter to the Dickinson County Conservation Board, which is overseeing the project, demanding immediate action be taken to correct the problem.
