(Spencer)– Some additional streets are being added to a pavement overlay project in Spencer. Public Works Director Mark White says favorable bids allowed them to add on to the project…
“In the CIP budget we budgeted $563,000 total including engineering, and we had really favorable bids for the project. The as-bid construction was $411,000 so we made the decision to add some additional work and take advantage of the contractor’s favorable bids while they’re in town. A spot that was added that we collectively decided with staff and the consulting engineer is on East 8th Street, there’s a half width of HMA overlay from Grand Avenue to 1st Avenue on the south half. This will include an overlay on that portion along with some concrete, curb and gutter repairs on the north side. So that’s really a high traffic area and that should improve that. We’ll still be staying well with under the CIP budgeted amount.”
Other streets that were already included in the project are 10th Avenue East north of 18th Street; 4th Avenue west from 1st to 4th Street; and a portion of West 5th Street.
