(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday heard concerns from a downtown resident over the recently revamped traffic signals on Grand Avenue. Benjamin Unseth said he feels a countdown feature on the signals are confusing to both motorists and pedestrians…
“Myself driving down Grand Avenue, before I knew that the countdown didn’t mean anything, as it was counting down I stopped. And then the light turned green and was back to white and fortunately I was not rear-ended. But if I had been, I would have counted Spencer liable because that’s what the countdown means in ten thousand other cities in America. Here, it’s very confusing and unpredictable. So I would maintain that it makes our, maybe it just needs to be tweaked, but the downtown is much less walkable and I think there’s actually danger the way it’s adjusted right now.”
Mayor Steve Bomgaars responded to the concern, saying the city will be in contact with traffic engineers to see what can be done.
