ILCC Students Volunteer In Chicago During Mission Trip

June 15, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Students from the Laker Life campus ministry at Iowa Lakes Community College volunteered their time during spring break to serve underprivileged residents during a week-long mission trip to Chicago.

Students volunteered at Breakthrough Ministries, which provides meals and shelter for those who are homeless. The students provided, prepared, and served the meals; organized clothes in the women’s boutique for those in the shelters and held the shelters sort clothes and donations.

ILCC students also assisted an after-school program in the city, spending time with children, helping them with homework, playing games with them and being a positive influence in their lives. They also taught children through song and dance and delivered messages of encouragement to them.

Brett Fuelberth, a music professor at Iowa Lakes who assists with the Laker Life Campus Ministry, says the goal of the mission trip is for students to grow in their faith, grow closer as a family of believers at Iowa Lakes, and to grow as student leaders by serving others.
