(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday evening approved the first reading of a proposed ordinance that would reduce the speed limit on North 6th Street between 1st Avenue North and 5th Avenue North. The limit would decrease in that area from 25 mph currently to 20 mph. City officials say it’s intended to address concerns from a nearby daycare provider and Upper Des Moines Opportunity. City Administrator Penny Clayton says some stoplights at the intersection of North 6th Street and 2nd Avenue North would also be put in a flashing mode…
The proposed change needs to come back to the city council for additional consideration prior to being considered for final approval.
Clayton says if approved, the reduced speed limit in that area would go in effect this fall, about the time school starts back up.
