Air Quality Alert Now Issued For NW Iowa & Extended For SW Minnesota

May 13, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Undated)– Smoke from canadian wildfires is impacting the region. Air quality alerts are in effect now for all of northwest Iowa until 11:00 pm Tuesday. The alert for southwest Minnesota was due to expire at noon today (Mon.) but has now been extended until 11:00 pm tonight (Mon.)

The smoke is coming from wildfires that are burning out of control in portions of British Columbia and Alberta. A cold front that moved the region Sunday is allowing the smoke to make its way into our region.

Those with respiratory conditions such as asthma are being told to take the necessary precautions.
