(Jackson, Mn.)– A man has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an incident Saturday morning in Jackson county.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were notified around 8:00 am of a man reported to be suicidal and was possibly armed on a riverbank somewhere in Jackson county. Authorities began searching and located a vehicle on Black Bridge Road under the I-90 overpass northwest of Jackson. A man matching the description of that given to authorities was located nearby along the bank of the Des Moines River. The area was barricaded and an ambulance was placed on standby.
Deputies negotiated with the male and about four hours later a gunshot could be heard coming from the riverbank. The male suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. A pistol was found nearby. The man was taken to the Jackson Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. His name hasn’t been released.
