(Jackson)- Jackson will soon have a new face in the position of City Administrator, but Matt Skaret is not quite done with the role as he gets ready to move to Fairmont taking the same position there. Skaret says he’s proud of the work done during his tenure…
“I think we’ve made a lot of progress here with infrastructure and definitely have a long way to go but we’ve undertaken several major street and utility projects, we’ve done a lot with our electric lines to bury them, we’re in the midst of finishing a major project at our water plant. Housing has definitely been a challenge over the past year, been working to try and get a market rate housing development to come to fruition, we’ve put the infrastructure in to help do that. And I think technology wise the city has advanced a lot with our Go Gov app, paying bills and with the credit cards we’ve totally redone our metering system, you know when I first came here people still had to write their water and electric meter readings on the postcard and return that to city hall, and with our AMI metering system we’ve really made that a lot more efficient and user friendly, yeah I think just done a lot here, didn’t get everything done but very proud of the work we have all been able to accomplish over the last almost six years.”
He also spoke about the new role he would be taking on, as City Administrator in Fairmont, and staying in the public sector…
“Yeah well I’m very excited about it. It’s an opportunity to stay in the area here but move onto a little bit larger city and definitely advance personally and professionally. Fairmont is a great community and has some similarities to Jackson but just on a little bit larger scale.”
Fairmont has over double the residents Jackson does, at just over 10,000, and Skaret says he looks forward to the new challenges.
