(Milford)– A fire early this (Tues.) morning prompted the evacuation of a Milford apartment building. The Milford Fire Department was called a little before 3:00 am to 1022 Okoboji Avenue after getting a report of a fire in a laundry room. Law enforcement officers put the fire out using extinguishers prior to firefighters arriving. The residents of the building were evacuated.
Upon arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming out of the front door of the building and used a water can extinguisher to further cool the area. Through use of a thermal camera, it was discovered the fire had gotten into a wall and ceiling. A hose line was then brought into the building and the fire was put out. The building was ventilated and residents were allowed to return to their apartments.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshal.
The Milford, Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments assisted on the scene.
