(Le Mars)– A Spirit Lake man faces charges in connection with a pursuit last week in Plymouth county.
A press release says a deputy was attempting to pull over a vehicle for traffic violations this past Wednesday near Merrill. Authorities say the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The pursuit went into Le Mars and continued northbound at speeds in excess of 95 mph. It then turned onto a minimum access road and got stuck in some mud. The driver got out and fled on foot. A perimeter was established around the scene while an extensive search got underway. A drone was launched which located the suspect lying down in a field.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Geoffrey Oolman of Spirit Lake, was taken into custody. He was booked into the Plymouth county jail for speeding, operating while intoxicated…1st offense, driving with a barred license, eluding…2nd offense, possession of a controlled substance…3rd of subsequent offense, unlawful possession of prescription pills and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police Departments from Le Mars, Remsen, and Orange City assisted in the case, along with the Sioux, Cherokee and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Offices.
