(Estherville)– There will also be some additional road work going on this spring in Estherville. Dakin Schultz of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office in Sioux City says crews will be returning to finish up some uncompleted work on Iowa Highway 4…
“The contractor got Iowa 4 open to traffic before winter, but we’ve got turn lane work to do there, we’ve got some curb and gutter work over there, we’ve got driveways to finish, so the contractor will be over there.”
Other than that, Schultz says this road construction season in northwest Iowa is going to consist mainly of maintenance type projects…
“We’ve got a couple bridges in Buena Vista county on Iowa 3 just west of U.S. 71 that will have bridge deck overlay so traffic will have to deal with temporary signals in that area. Otherwise, looking out, it’s mostly bridge work up here and then you’ll start to see some re-surfacing work around on the roadways.”
Schultz says the D.O.T is taking a bit of a break from major projects for now in the region…
“We’re kind of at that preservation mode. We just don’t see, envision any large projects up here and with the revenues the way they are and the prices the way they are, we are looking at more preservation-style work for the next five years.”
Schultz made the comments following an informational meeting last week in the Iowa Great Lakes.
