(Undated)– A very high fire danger is going to be present across the region today (Mon.). Most of northwest Iowa will be under a red flag warning from 1:00 this (Mon.) afternoon until 7:00 pm this (Mon.) evening.
Forecasters say a combination of very warm temperatures, a strong south wind, very low relative humidity, and dry vegetation means that any fires that do get going could quickly grow and spread. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
The Lake Park Fire Department was called late Sunday afternoon after getting a report of a grove on fire. Officials say no structures were threatened and there were no reports of injuries.
The fire danger should ease later this week. Significant rainfall is likely Wednesday into Thursday along with much cooler temperatures.
