Emmet County Considering A Burn Ban

March 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Authorities in Emmet county are considering the possibility of implementing a burn ban. The county’s fire chiefs met Monday to talk about it, following a large grass fire Sunday. It broke out in the 1900 block of 400th Avenue near Gruver. Fire departments from Gruver, Wallingford and Estherville battled the blaze.

A statement issued by Emmet county fire chiefs states that unless conditions improve, there’s a good chance a burn ban could be in place as early as next Monday. The statement goes on to say that the ban would be lifted as soon as conditions improve, that means receiving an adequate amount of moisture or things start to turn green.

The chiefs say that while no one likes to put burn bans in place, that they are sometimes needed to protect communities, firefighters and equipment.
