(Des Moines)– Spencer-based Community Housing Initiatives is getting some special recognition. The entity is an inaugural recipient of the Excellence in Development designation from the Iowa Finance Authority. IFA Director Debi Durham says Community Housing Initiatives was singled out for its commitment to providing housing for eligible Iowans through the Federal Housing Tax Credit Program.
Community Housing Initiatives has generated or preserved over 1,800 affordable housing units offered at levels below the market rate. Sam Erickson, CEO of Community Housing Initiatives, says CHI has invested $280 million in communities around the state along with reinvesting income from development and rental properties.
CHI has been in existence since 1993.
