Dickinson Co. Supervisors Review Plans For Renovation Of Veteran’s Memorial Plaza

February 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning reviewed plans for renovations of the veteran’s memorial plaza at the northeast entrance to the courthouse. Veterans Services Coordinator Spring Jones says the plans that were presented today (Tues.) represent months of meetings with a committee of veterans…

“We currently do not have a budgetary cost yet, or an estimate, at this time. This is all just informational for you guys that we wanted to bring to the board to let you guys know what we’re thinking. And our next Veteran Foundation Board is March 6th. At that time we hope to have a budget of cost estimates so that we can go through and decide what will be paid for by the Veteran Foundation and what will be needed by the county.”

She says a key part of the project involves the removal of brick pavers, some of which have severely deteriorated…

“The 525 pavers that are currently there, those names will be put on the monuments, either the existing monuments or we’re putting in two new monuments, so we’re no longer going to utilize the pavers. We’re hoping to create an ever lasting Veteran Memorial Plaza that will be here forever to honor our veterans and we won’t have to make any changes going into the future.”

Jones adds the tower will remain in place and that some drainage work will also be done in that area as part of the project.
