Authorities Urging Motorists To Use Extra Caution With All The Fog We’ve Been Experiencing

February 02, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Undated)– The very mild temperatures for this time of the year have been producing a not so desirable condition recently: dense fog. Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says some of that has been very spotty and has been catching motorists off-guard. He says the early morning and overnight hours bring special challenges when temperatures are around or below freezing…

“Fog lately has been kind of one of those tricky situations that causes visibility but then it also makes those roadways pretty slick and we find covering crashes with vehicles on their roofs in the ditch and what not because of the fact that they just don’t realize just how slick it can be because it’s so nice out.”

Krull says it drives home the reminder for everyone to drive according to the conditions…

“And then they go to make that pass for that somebody, which is probably not recommended and definitely not recommended in the fog, but they go to make that pass and then they do that change in direction and a little bit more acceleration they tend to find that, and then sliding through stop signs is another issue that we see out there.”

Krull adds it’s also important to drive with your low beam headlights on when it’s foggy.
