(Arnolds Park)– Another call is going out for everyone to keep vehicles, especially cars and trucks, off the ice this Winter Games Weekend. Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth…
“We just went out yesterday, drilled some holes. Anywhere there’s a little bit of snow insulating the ice we found that the depth isn’t very good, it’s only that 5 to 7 inch depth. And then, you know, 50, 60 feet away where there’s no snow it’s good ice, well there’s no good ice, but there’s better ice at 14 inches.”
Yungbluth says some adjustments have been made to make it easier for people to walk to the events that are on the lake…
“I know they moved some events a little bit so it’s easier to find a parking spot and to get to. The broomball, the Polar Plunge, food trucks, are all kind of that same area around the Amusement Park as well as several other events. There’s so many it’s hard to get through the whole list. But everything’s pretty much within walking distance and there’s a parking lot or parking area not too far away, so.”
Yungbluth adds Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire and Rescue will be fully staffed this weekend and will be on standby to respond to any emergency and medical calls this weekend.
***UPDATE: A post on Parks Marina’s Facebook page states that the 2024 Ice Oval Shootout has been cancelled. The post goes on to say that all other of their events will continue as scheduled.
