Ice Conditions Are Good For Now But Caution Still Advised For Winter Games

January 22, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– With the University of Okoboji Winter Games about to get underway , organizers are reminding everyone to pay attention to changing conditions, especially if venturing onto the ice. Kylie Zankowski, Director of Membership and Events with the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, says the recent cold weather helped create more ice, but people should still use caution…

“Well I think we were all a little bit miserable during that frigid cold snap. We’re really glad that it did make some ice for us, so we’re still working on growing some ice but we really encourage everyone to be safe, be smart, and stay tuned for our ice updates. Right now we’ve got enough ice for all of our foot traffic events and so we’re really just encouraging everyone to be safe and smart and we’re looking forward to a great Winter Games Weekend.”

The 44th U of O Winter Games events officially kick off Thursday, January 25th, and run through Sunday, January 28th.
