(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council is considering a change to the city’s fireworks ordinance. Under the current policy, fireworks in Estherville can only be discharged with a city-issued permit. Officials say the vast majority of residents who shot off fireworks over the 4th of July last year did so without a permit. Police say they have difficulty catching the offenders in the act, making it nearly impossible to enforce the ordinance. And City Administrator Penny Clayton says there’s also a potential liability issue with the city-issued permits…
While the council decided Monday evening to hold a public hearing on a possible ordinance revision, just exactly what that might consist of isn’t certain just yet. Councilman Brandon Carlin said to him, the latter isn’t an option…
A public hearing on the matter will be held at the council’s next regular meeting, May 15th.
