Dickinson Co. Supervisors Take Into Consideration Proposal From Water Quality Commission

October 18, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Supervisors today (Tues.) took no action on a proposal to adjust the amount of money the county contributes annually to the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission. Coordinator John Wills says the changes would help meet inflation. But he says it would require a revision to the entity’s 28E agreement. Wills added there’s been some discussion about the possibility of earmarking a certain amount of the commission’s funds to help battle aquatic invasive species…

“I personally think it’s something that we’ve been lacking in the county, and this way if we would do it through the Water Quality Commission, every entity in the county would contribute towards it, which I think is fair.”

Supervisor Tim Fairchild said he feels the state should also up its funding for aquatic invasive species…

“The jurisdiction of the lake, it’s a state lake, right? And this is a private group that’s taken private money to help the state, I would think there could be some efforts made to increase their amount of funding for it.”

Wills is in the process of meeting with member entities of the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission about the possible changes. He says some cities have gone on record of being in favor of the additional funding, while others want to see what the other entities want to do.
