(Royal)– A Royal man wanted on a federal warrant was taken into custody Friday after holding officers at bay for more than six hours.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Timothy Steinbeck was wanted for a narcotics violation. Deputies located Steinbeck at his residence at 305 Meadow Street in Royal around 4:00 pm, however Steinbeck barricaded himself inside before they could make contact with him. A tactical team from the Iowa State Patrol was contacted and arrived at the scene. After numerous attempts to remove Steinbeck from the residence failed, a non-toxic gas was introduced into the residence. Steinbeck then exited around 10:43 pm and was taken into custody. He was taken to Spencer Hospital to be evaluated and was then transported to the Clay county jail. Steinbeck was transferred to the custody of federal officials earlier today (Tues.).
