(Des Moines)– This holiday weekend is expected to continue what has been a busy summer on Iowa’s lakes and rivers. The D-N-R’s Susan Stoker (stock-er) says two words describe the crowds she’s seeing during the summer weekends — “Steady,” and “large.” She also says there’s been an increase in canoeing and kayaking.
Stocker warns that some lakes may have debris from recent rainfall in portions of Iowa.
Boat drivers are also being warned to stay sober. Stoker says heat, wind, sun, and glare off the water can enhance the effects of alcohol, hindering an operator’s ability to think quickly and increasing the risk of an accident.
