DNR Recommends No Swimming At Emerson Bay Beach Due To High Bacteria Levels

August 27, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is recommending no swimming at the Emerson Bay Beach on the west side of West Lake Okoboji. The DNR says recent testing indicated abnormally high levels of E-coli in water samples taken from that vicinity.

The nearby beach at Gull Point State Park tested at safe levels, as did other state park beaches in the lakes area that are monitored on a weekly basis. That also includes Crandall’s Beach on the north side of Big Spirit Lake which tested high last week. The DNR says levels there are once again safe.
