Discussion Over Possible Future Of Former City Hall Building Surfaces During Milford City Council Meeting

December 15, 2020

(Milford)– There was some discussion at Monday’s Milford City Council regarding the possible future of the former city hall building, which now houses the city’s Police Department and an agency that fights wild fires on public grounds.

The discussion was centered around the possible removal of a large evergreen on the site. The Milford Commercial Club has lit the tree during previous holiday seasons, but city officials say it has grown to the point to where they don’t have the equipment any more to do that. The firefighting agency has expressed interest in renewing its lease on a portion of that building for another three years. Councilman Andy Yungbluth suggested the city leave the tree for now given the uncertainty of the site after that, referencing some preliminary discussion about possibly building a new facility that would house the city’s public works facility and Police Department…Milford Building Discussion

“So I mean if we’re two years out from having a new shop, they have another year lease. We can’t do anything for at least one more year with that building. But then we have to step back as a city and see if that building is cost effective to keep around or if it’s, you know, going to cause issues in the future and we just want to bulldoze it and make a parking lot.”

No action was taken on the tree. Mayor Steve Anderson said he would like to hear more from the Milford Commercial Club.
