(Des Moines) — All of Iowa’s 99 counties are now reporting at least one death from COVID-19. Decatur County is the last to report a death from virus complications. The south-central Iowa county and Worth County in north-central Iowa are the only two out of the 99 counties to report single COVID deaths as of Monday. Osceola, Greene, and Ringold counties each reported two deaths, and Fremont and Taylor each had three. Polk County has the most residents, and the most COVID-19 deaths, with 357 as of Monday, followed by Linn with 173 and Woodbury with 141.
The number of COVID-related deaths reported today (Tues.) in Iowa increased substantially. The Department of Public Health reported 202 additional deaths bringing the state’s death toll to 2,919. The department says the substantial increase is attributed to new reporting methods. The state previously reported deaths if the person had a positive test through the state and was reported to the state as deceased. Under the new method, a positive test is NOT required for the contributing factor of death to be ruled as COVID.
The number of hospitalizations from the virus statewide is up slightly today (Tues.), to 900, compared to 898 on Monday.
18 new cases of the virus are being reported today (Tues.) in Dickinson county. The county’s death toll has been revised downward, to 11, from 12 previously.
