(Spirit Lake)– Those affiliated with various mental health and social service providers say as the severity of the pandemic continues to worsen, the volume of calls they’re getting is also dramatically increasing. Sherry Murphy is the Executive Director of the Family Crisis Center. She told the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors last week they recently received 1,500 calls for service in just one month…
“I would say Dickinson county and Clay county and Sioux county are leading callers in our northwest Iowa region so. We’ve actually moved an additional advocate up here because the count is so high for our clients seeking services and because of the homicide and other violent crimes. Just to hear this, those cases sometimes take seven years working with them.”
Murphy also made her annual request for funding from the county, requesting $15,000, the same as last year. The supervisors will take the matter into consideration during upcoming budget talks.
