(Spencer)– A major fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association will be held this weekend in Spencer. They’ll be holding their annual “Walk To End Alzheimer’s” this Sunday, September 27th. Lauren Livingston, Communications Director for Iowa chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association tells KUOO news the event is being held in a different format this year due to the pandemic…
“You know due to the pandemic we are encouraging everyone to walk in small groups of family and friends wherever they are; in their neighborhood, on trails, all across the community to spread awareness about the fight to end Alzheimers and also to raise money. They can start a team by going to alz.org/walk and register for the Spencer walk and they can sign up a team and start fundraising.”
She says you can pick your own time to do the walk Sunday…
“You can really do the walk any time of the day, whatever works for you. But we do have our opening ceremonies will be virtual this year, so you can tune in to those at 1:45 pm by going to the walk website for Spencer and clicking on the walk day details, and then you can start walking at 2:00 pm and we’ll have our promise garden as well. It will be view only this year but you can come drive or walk by that at East Leech Park from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Sunday.”
Livingston says the event is a major fundraiser for the association each year…
“We have 18 walks throughout the state and every single one is very important. They’re huge for raising money for research and support for those families.”
