(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning heard an update on the county’s COVID-19 numbers. Brandon Rohrig of Dickinson County Public health reported it’s kind of a good news, bad news scenario…
“We’re up to 309 confirmed positives which puts us in the top 10 for our rates within the state. I don’t know if that’s a good record to be put into, but what I find to be one of the most interesting things is so we’ve had the Test Iowa site now for three, four weeks and since we’ve had the Test Iowa site our numbers are kind of trending back down and are normalizing at a much lower level than I or anyone else on the task force ever anticipated. I thought we were going to jump up to five, six hundred within a week or two and possibly break the four digit threshold. Surprisingly we have not had, I think it’s about 40 cases have tested positive since we started the Test Iowa site. Again, very different from what we were guessing.”
Rohrig added they are still anticipating a fairly significant increase in numbers yet from over the 4th of July.
The supervisors also today (Tues.) learned Katy Burke, Public Health Educator with Dickinson County Public Health, will be fill filling in as the Department’s Director on an interim basis once Rohrig leaves. His final day on the job will be this Friday. As we reported previously Rohrig has accepted a position with the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.
