Milford City Council & Okoboji School Board Meet In Joint Session

July 10, 2020

(Milford)– Parking at the Elementary and High Schools was a major point of discussion at a joint meeting Thursday evening of the Okoboji School Board and Milford City Council. School officials said they are working on a formal agreement with a nearby church which also shares a parking lot with the neighboring Community Building, to help take some of the edge off of parking near the Elementary school.

School officials also requested the city look into the possibility of converting some parking near Florence Park to angle parking to help with a parking crunch at the high school. City officials said they’d be willing to study that. And to address issues with double parking near the elementary, council members indicated they’ll direct the Police Department to step up patrols in that area.

The school board also requested the city install a sidewalk at an estimated cost of $60,000 connecting the new middle school with H Avenue. City officials indicated they would be willing to perhaps negotiate a cost-share with the school. School officials will meet with a contractor doing concrete work at the new middle school to see if the cost could be lowered and will report back to the city.

There was also discussion on any future expansion plans for the high school and elementary, but school officials say details are still being worked out as they enter the second phase of their facilities project.
