(Spirit Lake)– Authorities say most people heeded the warnings Friday and Saturday and stayed put. Mike Ehret, Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator, says there were no serious weather-related incidents reported in the county…
“Officers did deal with several vehicles that were either stuck in the road in drifts or in the ditch, things of that nature. None of which as far as I’m aware resulted in any injuries of any sort. Just the usual slipping off into the ditch or getting stuck in the road, that sort of thing. Beyond that, nothing too major from the storm, fortunately.”
Ehret offers a few reminders as people continue to dig out…
“If you have a fire hydrant close by, if you’re able, make sure those are dug out and clear of snow and ice so if God forbid there is a fire in the neighborhood that the fire department doesn’t have to spend their time digging those things out when they should be working on fighting the fire. And then also gas meters. Make sure those are cleared of snow and ice along with your furnace vents, if you have one that vents out the side of your house, make sure that pipe is clear of snow and ice. You don’t want to get a carbon monoxide back up into your house or anything like that, so.”
Some additional snow is in the forecast as we head through the week, along with maybe even some freezing rain.
