(Fostoria)– The sanitary sewer system in Fostoria will undergo smoke testing Monday and Tuesday of next week (Nov. 18th & 19th). Curt Cheevers is with Iowa Lakes Regional Water, which will be conducting the testing in conjunction with the city of Fostoria. He says smoke will be injected into manholes throughout the town…
“What that will do is it will show up any intakes or tiles or drain spouts that are maybe tied into the system that shouldn’t be. You’ll have smoke come out of them and that will tell us. The reason we’re doing it is because of I and I. We’ve got some infiltration and intrusion into the line that shouldn’t be there. Especially when the groundwater is high or a heavy rain. It’s mainly, we’re just getting too much water out to their lagoons.”
Cheevers says any resident of Fostoria who notices a heavy amount of smoke in their home to contact them. He says the smoke is harmless and won’t leave any residuals or stains…
“The main thing is it comes up through like sink or something like that, put some water in the trap and that should take care of it. You might find some seals around toilets that are leaking, but the main thing is just give us a call and we’ll come check it out and see what they’ve got.”
