(Omaha, Neb.)– A regional economist has a mixed outlook for retail sales over the holiday season. Creighton University economics professor Ernie Goss predicts retail sales will grow by 3 to 4 percent this holiday shopping season, with roughly a 14 percent increase in the e-commerce sector. But, he says the outlook is not as good this year as in previous ones due to several factors. At the top of that list, he says, is hiring headaches…
On the positive side, Goss says some of that bonus money will likely help boost retail sales.
He says a slowing economy, debt loads, gifting experiences such as health club memberships and vacations, along with tariffs and trade tensions are other factors that will likely come into play with retail sales this holiday season.
