(Arnolds Park)– The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission decided Monday night how to divy up the 100-thousand dollars it has in first round grant money.
The commission had received 13 requests for 184-thousand dollars in funding. They voted Monday evening to fund 11 of those requests…some fully, others partially. Two applications, one from the Resource Conservation Development program for a computer recycling program, the other for a hazardous material program through Dickinson County Emergency Services, were denied any funding.
The projects that were funded and the amounts they were awarded include:
the Cleanwater Alliance (coordinator’s salary): $21,000
Friends of Lakeside Lab (communications plan) $4,000
Silver Lake (basin repair) $815
Jackson County, Mn. Environmental Services (infrared mapping) $2,500
Friends of Lakeside Lab (water quality testing) $34,550
Dickinson County Soil & Water Conservation District (1/3 of Tim Terrell’s salary): $16,034
Joint intern (to be shared by Lakeside Lab & the Dickinson County Conservation Board): $10,000
Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (mapping): $3,740
Spirit Lake Schools (student water testing): $1,469
Administrative costs: $836
Iowa Department of Natural Resources (purchase and restore wetlands): $5,000.
